Other winners that year included Meryl Streep, John McCutcheon, Sesame Street, Samuel L Jackson, and Maria Muldaur. According to the ALA committee, the award recognises that this production is "important, distinguished, outstanding, and encouraging to children's interests in exemplary ways."
